Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to provide an insight into the relationship between lexical items and structural forms and to equip pre-service teachers with methods to help learners develop and enhance their academic vocabulary treasure.
Course Content This course focuses on the development of English vocabulary competence, analysis of the relationships between semantics and discourse and the skills to teach English words in an integrated way; there are opportunities in the course for pre-service teachers to distinguish English word categories, word formation processes, and different meanings of words within context; it encompasses the premises of presenting words in the class and different texsts to be used in the class, resources like dictionary and corpora, and vocabulary teaching techniques;furthermore within the scope of this course, the focus is also on the tests to be used to assess vocabulary knowledge of learners and teaching/ learning strategies to support students' vocabulary learning.
