Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course; is to inform the physiotherapy students about indications, applications, modifications of orthoses, to teach the solution of the potential complications of orthotic applications, to comprehend appropriate treatment program planning and implementation for increase the effectiveness of the orthosis and rehabilitation and to develop skills to solve specific problems in patients.
Course Content This course covers the following topics: 'Biomechanical principles of orthotics', 'Pre-post orthosis evaluations', 'Orthotic applications for upper and lower limbs and vertebral column segments', 'Orthosis use in musculoskeletal and nervous system diseases', 'Orthotics control' and 'Orthotic rehabilitation techniques'.

3Analysis of Pathology
4Basic concepts of lower limb orthoses, principles and methods.
5Foot Orthosis (FO), appropriate footwear and Insole
6Lower extremity orthotics I (AFO)
7Lower Extremity Orthotics II (KAFO)
8Lower Extremity Orthotics III (HKAFO)
9Midterm
10Spinal pathology, spinal orthotics and principles of orthotic approaches
11Basic concepts of upper extremity orthotics, principles and methods.
12Upper Extremity Orthotics I (Bracing of frequent pathologies of hand (rheumatoid hands, peripheral nerve injuries, flexor / extensor tendon injury, spastic hands, cumulative traumas, congenital deformities, digital deformities etc.))
13Upper Extremity Orthotics II (elbow pathologies and orthotics (contractures, tennis / golfer elbow, instabilities, pronation / supination problems))
14Upper Extremity Orthotics III (Shoulder pathologies and orthotics (clavicle and humerus fractures, shoulder subluxation and brachial plexus lesions, postural defects))
