Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of the course is to convey the 2D and 3D expression and narrative techniques in the universal representation and communication language of the architectural discipline. In this sense, the basic approach of the course is to present the spatial and mass organizations of the 3-dimensional architectural object in the 2-dimensional representation plane, to structure it in the 3-dimensional modeling field and to create visualization and presentation environments for architectural design.
Course Content The course includes the creation of plan, section, elevation representations of a 3D architectural design in 2D environment according to parallel projection technical drawing method, placement of module and block creation logic with US National CAD Layer system, techniques and methods of creating 3D architectural modeling in digital environment, production of visualization and presentation environment in which contextual and conceptual outputs of the designed architectural object are taken into consideration.

2Explanation of plan, section, elevation concepts, measurement and scale information. Introduction of AutoCAD software interface, making basic settings, explaining the components of draw and modify menu. Basic drawing applications using draw and modify tool. Explanation of the properties of the layer system and grid system by explaining the sample project and sheet format. Drawing the structural axes (S-AXIS) and vertical structural elements (S-COLS) on the 1/50 scale plan of a three-story housing project selected as an example.
3Drawing of exterior walls (A-WALL-FULL-EXTR), interior walls (A-WALL-FULL-INTR) and structural walls (S-WALL) on the 1/50 scale plan of the selected housing project. Explanation of door (A-DOOR), window (A-GLAZ) building components and block system.
4Drawing of plaster (A-FNSH, I-FINSH) and furnishings (A-FURN) on the 1/50 scale plan of the housing project selected as an example. SUBMISSION OF PREPARATORY WORKS
51/50 scale section (A-A section) drawing. Giving the B-B section as an in-class application. Drawing of four views in 1/50 scale.
6Explanation of calculations and representations of the vertical connection element. Adding stair plans (S-STRS, A-FLOR-STRS, A-FLOR-HRAL) to three floor plans.
7Drawing of sections and views of stairs. Adding letterhead (A-ANNO-SHEET), text (A-AREA-OCCP), section lines (A-ANNO-SECT), dimensions (A-DIMS-EXTR, A-DIMS-INTR) and elevation values (L-TOPO-SPOT) of plans, sections and elevations. SKETCH STUDY BEFORE MIDTERM EXAM
8Introducing the SketchUp software interface, making basic settings, using menus and explaining basic modeling logic and methods. Transferring the difference between component and group. Importing the AutoCAD file to be used as the base of the three-dimensional model. MIDTERM SUBMISSION BEFORE MIDTERM EXAM
9MIDTERM EXAM
10Modeling of the structural system (S-COLS, S-BEAM) and the sub-shell (S-SLAB) with layer and component/group logic in SketchUp environment with reference to the plan, section and elevation of the sample housing project.
11Modeling the top shell (S-SLAB) and side shell (A-WALL-FULL-EXTR), horizontal partitions (S-SLAB) and vertical partitions (A-WALL-FULL-INTR) of the sample housing project with layer and component/group logic in SketchUp environment.
12Explaining the subject of solid tools. Modeling the vertical connection (S-STRS, A-FLOR-HRAL) and reinforcements (A-DOOR, A-GLAZ, A-FURN) of the sample housing project with layer and solid tools logic in SketchUp environment. Making detail studies of the model.
13Explanation of the concepts of main entrance, main space and the route to the main space. Taking still images (storyboard) from the sample housing project (with edge styles) whose digital drawing and three-dimensional modeling are finished. Creating layout with basic Photoshop visualization commands. SKETCH STUDY BEFORE FINAL EXAM
