Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The course aims to analyze visual and linguistic texts based on linguistics and semiotics theories. 1. The course has a 75% attendance requirement. Students who are absent in more than 25% of the courses (3 Courses) are automatically considered unsuccessful. Students who fall into absenteeism will not have the right to mid-term exams, finals and presentations. 2. Students who cannot attend the course are responsible for the subjects and techniques of the course they cannot attend. They are responsible for presenting the homework of the missed course. 3. Copying (copying all or part of the work of others) is not tolerated and is reported to student affairs as plagiarism. 4. The projects, studies and assignments submitted must be original and must be prepared by the students themselves. 5. Students are responsible for watching lectures and taking notes. 6. Students are responsible for submitting their homework on time and following the course announcements from the school system (Ubis, e-mail, etc.) coordinated by the instructor.
Course Content It is about reading and interpreting through theoretical and practical examples of how and in what way the meaning is produced, especially in the visual design production process, by adhering to the visual culture elements, and the ways of seeing that are constantly changing in proportion to the effect of rapidly changing technology today. Visuals are analyzed in relation to concepts such as gender, beauty, identity, status and culture used in painting, photography, cinema and advertisements.
