Purpose and Content

The aim of the course	To comprehend and analyse some further works of Shakespeare within the context of the historical and cultural context of their production and reception.

Learning Outcomes

Acquire historical, theoretical and practical knowledge on English language and literature, supplemented by course books, materials and other sources that contain current information in the field.
Gain an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of authors, movements and texts from different periods of literary history.
Have theoretical and practical knowledge on the systematical structure, functioning and evolution of the language.
Explain different structures and discourse functions of the selected works from English literature.
Acquire general knowledge on American culture, literature and history and define key terms and concepts.
Acquire knowledge of another European language and Discuss the intellectual, cultural and historical contexts in which literature is written and read.
Critically interpret English and American literary, cultural and social life.
Critically analyze literary texts produced in the Renaissance and other historical periods. Make an indepth analysis of mythology, Classic, and Neo-Classic art insights.
Reflect on ethical, psyhological, and philosophical and issues in literary, cultural and historical texts.
Apply literary, critical, historical, linguistic and approaches to textual analysis

There are various single editions of Shakespeare’s plays available in bookshops as well as complete Works. But the Folger Shakespeare Library editions, for instance, are easy to use, widely available and cheap. Avoid editions without line numbering
