Purpose and Content

The aim of the course We will begin by learning the basics of research and writing. Then you will develop a thesis for your project along with an annotated bibliography, write the first draft and revise, finally submitting your paper at the end of the term.
Course Content This course will teach you the basics of literary research, writing and citation, which will lead to the writing of a research essay for this class. The skills are ESSENTIAL to your development as a student as such are taken very seriously. We will center the course around researching and developing a paper on Frankenstein, a book you are already reading for Literary Movements II.

5-Citation Formats: MLA, APA, Chicago -Citation reference, compiling a working bibliography
6-The format of a research paper: margins, text formatting, style
7-What is an essay? What are the components of an essay? How to write an introduction, body and conclusion?
8-Essay types
9-Literary text analysis/Reading articles -The Story of an Hour, secondary reading, research, and thematic analysis -Planning the writing process: Paragraph, topic sentence, unity, coherence, and supporting sentences.
10Midterm Exam
11-Mechanics of writing, punctuation, quotations
12-Planning the writing process: topic, thesis statement, discussion points, opposing thoughts and context.
13Literary text analysis: A Man in the Case -Forming a first draft, the importance of the first draft. What is a response/reaction paper? How to write one.
14Studies of draft and citation on planned research articles about the short story Overall Evaluation: Reporting the to-be-written essay on the short story
