Among the factors that increase the impact of disasters on buildings, unplanned and intensive construction on risky areas is among the dominant effects. Especially as a result of the earthquakes in our country, the fact that a significant part of the buildings in geologically risky geographies cannot show enough resistance in possible earthquakes shows the necessity of reviewing the construction strategies and policies in these areas. In addition, it was defined in 2009 that for an urbanization model that is resistant to disasters determined by the United Nations, it should provide the sustainability of the settlements as well as the structural strength and produce solutions against global events such as climate change. As Istanbul Aydın University Disaster Training Application and Research Center, we held a seminar on the earthquake resistance of buildings in our country and the urbanization model that is resistant to disasters defined by the United Nations on November 23, 2016. The students of the civil engineering department of our university attended the seminar.
