About:
This project researched the social problems that emerged based on spatial, social, economic and population changes in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul through two different urban transformation examples and the social work solutions produced locally. The first of the transformations that the project focused on is the "Okmeydanı" neighborhood, which is one of the urban transformation projects that Beyoğlu Municipality put into practice by completing the legal processes this year. The second is the gentrification process in the Galata, Cihangir and Asmalı Mescit neighborhoods that left its mark on the 1990s and early 2000s. This study will examine the social problems, social service needs and the civil and publicly supported solutions produced locally in Okmeydanı, and it aims to question this in the light of urban population movements and the space-human relationship discussions.

Methods:
In-depth interviews and semi-structured interviews were also conducted in Galata, Cihangir and Asmalımescit neighborhoods. The research results were analyzed using SPSS and Nvivo. Fieldwork was conducted with Istanbul Aydın University Social Work Department 3rd and 4th grade students (2019 and 2020 graduates) and interviews were held with the headmen in the Beyoğlu region.

Topics:
Urban Transformation
Gentrification
