Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course based on mythology and culture; to gain a conceptual perspective on mythology as a discipline; to give information about the birth, meaning and effects of mythology on the history of civilization; The course aims to examine the reflections of mythology on art and cinema by focusing on mythology in the context of its interaction with culture.
Course Content The course; includes the Birth, Meaning and Effects of Mythology, Types of Myth, Classical Mythology and World Mythology.

1What is Mythology? Emergence, Meaning and Effects of Mythology The concept of mythology: Mythos, Logos and Ethos; Functions of mythology, effects of mythology on the history of civilization.
2What is Myth? Types of Myth Myth, Ritual, Myth, Epic, Folk story, Fairy tale, Fable; Types of myths: Ritual myths, Origin myths, Cult myths, Prestige myths, Myths of Eskatalogia.
3Mesopotamian and Egyptian Mythologies Mesopotamian civilizations and culture; Sumerian civilization, culture and mythology; Babylonian civilization, culture and mythology; Epic of Gilgamesh; Egyptian civilization, culture and mythology.
4Introduction to Classical Mythology Antiquity, Hellenism, Greek civilization and culture, Roman civilization and culture, Greek and Roman mythologies.
5Classical Mythology: Greek and Roman Mythologies Greek mythology, Homer and Homer Epics, Heseidos; Roman mythology, Vergilius, Ovidius.
6Middle Eastern mythologies Middle Eastern civilizations and culture; Jewish mythology and the Torah; Christian myths and the Bible; Armenian mythology; Iranian mythology.
7Anatolian mythology Anatolian civilization and culture; Hittite civilization, culture and mythology; The cult of the mother goddess; Anatolian legends.
