Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to introduce students to second language acquisition theories. In addition, this course aims to inform students about individual differences, first language acquisition and second language acquisition.
Course Content First and second language acquisition theories (behaviorism, congeniality, information processing, connective models, interactional approach); developmental stages and processes of mother tongue and target language; case studies, comparative analysis of main and target language usage from sentence data, comparison of second language acquisition in children and adults by means of in-class second language interaction and translation, developmental stages in mother tongue acquisition, form-syntactic development stages in the second language, second language acquisition Learner traits in language acquisition and individual differences in ultimate achievement (e.g. personality influence, language ability, intelligence, age of acquisition, motivation and attitude, learner preferences and beliefs), differences in second language and foreign language learning contexts (for example: natural and formal educational environments) .
