Pre-School Education

The Preschool Teacher Education Program at Istanbul Aydın University was established in the 2009–2010 academic year and began admitting students in the same year. It is an undergraduate program offered within the Faculty of Education. The language of instruction is Turkish, and the duration of study is four years (eight semesters). The program aims to train qualified teachers in the field of early childhood education and is implemented in cooperation with the faculty, relevant academic units of the university, and practice schools. Theoretical courses are supported by practice-oriented studies.

  Bölüm Başkanının Mesajı

Early childhood education is the most strategic stage of education in which the cognitive, emotional, social, and ethical foundations of the individual are established within the complex and rapidly transforming world of the 21st century. This period is not merely a process of acquiring academic competencies; rather, it constitutes a holistic learning ecosystem in which critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, and a sense of responsibility are developed. In this respect, early childhood education is not a discipline that merely anticipates the future, but one that consciously shapes it. Preschool teacher education is a multidimensional field of expertise that is not limited to program knowledge and instructional methods, but requires a high level of professional responsibility, ethical sensitivity, and a strong understanding of humanity. University education is not solely a process of acquiring subject-matter knowledge; it is a holistic developmental journey that shapes teacher candidates’ ways of relating to children, their professional stance, their values, and their pedagogical decision-making skills. From this perspective, our program values not only what teacher candidates teach, but also the kind of teachers they become. In line with the 21st-century skills required by contemporary society, our program adopts as its core mission the education of reflective, inquisitive educators who are committed to ethical principles and who possess strong environmental and social responsibility. In a world where artificial intelligence and digital technologies are rapidly expanding, our goal is not to prepare individuals who are passive subjects of this transformation, but to educate teachers who critically evaluate, manage, and use technology for pedagogical purposes within a human-centered approach. Our program is structured around contemporary pedagogical approaches supported by scientific research, interdisciplinary thinking, critical inquiry, and practice-based learning. Play-based learning, inclusive education, sustainability, and nature-based pedagogies constitute the core components of the program. Preserving children’s relationship with nature, fostering sensitivity toward natural resources, and developing environmental awareness are integral elements of our educational philosophy. We regard the international accreditation process as a natural extension of our commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement, and we remain determined to educate future teachers who are aligned with global standards, responsive to local contexts, and dedicated to shaping the educators of tomorrow.
