Purpose and Content

The aim of the course	The aim of this course is to enable students of the Social Services Associate Degree Program to reinforce the theoretical knowledge and professional skills they have acquired during their education through practical experience in institutions and organizations related to the field of social services. The course aims to help students make professional observations, become familiar with institutional functioning, observe service delivery processes for target groups, and develop basic professional awareness regarding social service practices.
Course Content	The Summer Internship course covers students’ 30 working days of practical training in public institutions, private sector organizations, or non-governmental organizations operating in the field of social services. Within the scope of the course, students observe the structure, functioning, target groups, service delivery processes, and the duties and responsibilities of professionals working in the institution. They also gain basic professional experience regarding case processes, record keeping, ethical principles, institutional communication, teamwork, and social service practices.

Course Content

Within the scope of the course, students observe the structure, functioning, target groups, service delivery processes, and the duties and responsibilities of professionals working in the institution. They also gain basic professional experience regarding case processes, record keeping, ethical principles, institutional communication, teamwork, and social service practices.

Gains knowledge about occupational health and safety, environmental awareness, and quality processes.
Keeps abreast of current developments and practices in their field and applies them effectively.

As a team member, takes responsibility for resolving complex and unforeseen issues encountered in applications related to their field.

Knows the legislation, care services, and intervention methods for disadvantaged groups in the field of social services.
Analyzes social issues affecting individuals and society and develops solutions.
Has knowledge and awareness of social work practices in Türkiye and around the world.

Weekly Course Subjects

1	Introduction to the internship institution; general information about the institution’s purpose, field of service, organizational structure, and functioning.
2	Recognition of the institution’s target group and the social service practices provided by the institution.
3	Observation of the duties, authorities, and responsibilities of professionals working in the institution.
4	Evaluation of professional ethical principles and the principle of confidentiality in social service practices.
5	Observation of application, admission, referral, and service delivery processes.
6	Examination of record keeping, reporting, and filing processes used in the institution.
7	Observation of needs assessment processes for individuals, families, groups, or communities receiving services.
8	Evaluation of internal communication, teamwork, and interdisciplinary cooperation processes within the institution.
9	Observation of social assessment, interview, and referral processes.
10	Examination of the institution’s cooperation, referral, and coordination processes with other institutions and organizations.
11	Observation of social service practices for disadvantaged groups.
12	Evaluation of problems, limitations, and solution strategies encountered in social service practices.
13	Relating the student’s observations and experiences gained during the internship process to professional knowledge.
14	General evaluation of the internship process; review of the internship file, reporting process, and professional gains.
