Purpose and Content

The aim of the course This course aims to provide students with a grasp of the subject matter and methodology of sociology, the history of the discipline, core sociological concepts, and the relationship between sociology and the other social sciences. It further aims to enable students to reflect on the significance of the sociological perspective and on how it can be cultivated, and to acquire the foundational knowledge needed to draw connections between sociological thought and other disciplines.
Course Content The course examines the range of subjects sociology encompasses as a discipline, the development of sociological thought, and the scope and limits of the field. The principal themes addressed over the semester are the reasons underlying the divergence of approaches within sociology, the analysis of fundamental sociological concepts and processes, and the historical development of sociology as a science.
