Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic concepts, subfields, theoretical framework, and fields of inquiry of anthropology, and to equip them with the ability to evaluate social phenomena such as culture, social structure, identity, gender, family, economy, politics, and belief systems from an anthropological perspective across different cultural groups.
Course Content This course covers the basic concepts, historical development, methods, and subfields of anthropology; and focuses on evolution, cultural change, human diversity (including the concepts of race and gender), the relationship between language and culture, the relationship between culture and personality, economic and political anthropology, and belief systems.
