Purpose and Content

The aim of the course	to gain knowledge about the importance of games in preschool education, planning the game time, to introduce play materials appropriate with age and developmental characteristics, to gain knowledge about methods of child recognition through play, to gain the ability of creative material development, to introduce cultural toys
Course Content	Historical development of games. Games and toys in Turkish culture and examples from world cultures. Concepts about play development and games. Characteristics of play. Theories of play development: classical theories, dynamic theories and cognitive theories. Developmental stages of play. Types and characteristics of play. Role of play in identification of children. Role of play as a teaching method. Play materials appropriate for age groups. Characteristics of play materials. Important points in selection of play materials. Important points in planning preschool playtimes. Developing creative materials and games for preschool children. Modifying behavioural problems by games.

Course Content
