Purpose and Content

The aim of the course To introduce the semiconductor circuit components to the student and show their basic applications.
Course Content DC sources, resistors, basic resistive circuits: Voltage & current dividers, introduction to AC signals: t-domain and f-domain concept, Inductor, Capacitor, Transformer, RC and RL circuits, LP, HP filters, Semiconductors, pn junction, diodes, diode applications, Special diodes: Zener, photodiode, LED etc. Introduction to BJT transistors: Operation principle, switching applications: logic gates, BJT biasing: Graphical and DC analysis, Amplifier/Attenuator concept, cascade systems, BJT amplifiers: Small sign equivalent, gain, distortion, saturation, introduction to JFET transistors, JFET biasing: Graphical and DC analysis, JFET amplifiers: Small signal equivalent, gain.

Weekly Course Subjects

1DC sources, resistors, basic resistor circuits: Voltage & current dividers
2Introduction to AC signals: t-domain and f-domain concepts. Scope and signal tracking with scope.
3Inductor, Capacitor, Transformer, RC and RL circuits LP, HP filters
4Semiconductors, pn junction, diodes. Diode testing and troubleshooting in diodes.
5Diode applications
6Special diodes: Zener, photodiode, LED etc.
7Introduction to BJT Transistors: operation principle, BJT testing and troubleshooting in BJTs, switching
8BJT biasing: Graphical and DC analysis
9Mid-term exam
10Amplifier/Attenuator concept, cascaded systems
11BJT amplifiers: Small signal equivalent, gain, distortion, saturation
12Introduction to JFET transistors, JFET biasing: Graphical and DC analysis
13JFET amplifiers: Small signal equivalent, gain.
14General review, recitation for the final exam
