Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

(1) How can I freeze (suspend) my enrollment?

• To be eligible to freeze your enrollment, you must have completed at least one semester.

• You may apply to the Faculty of Communication Secretariat using the enrollment freeze form available in the Information and Documents section of our website.

• Your application is finalized upon approval by the School Administrative Board.

Valid excuses for freezing enrollment are as follows:

a) The student temporarily going abroad for educational purposes related to their profession or studies, or being temporarily assigned to a domestic institution for the same purpose,

b) Military service,

c) Illness, natural disasters, economic difficulties that prevent continuation of studies, or a compulsory need to work due to similar reasons; the death of a close relative such as a mother, father, spouse, child, or sibling, or their illness when there is no one else to provide care,

ç) Delays in a student's thesis work, despite having successfully completed the course load, due to reasons beyond the student's control such as difficulties in obtaining equipment or materials.

• You may freeze your enrollment for a maximum of two consecutive semesters.

(2) How can I apply for a Double Major / Minor?

Students with high academic achievement may specialize in fields related to or different from their own department.

• Double Major: Enables you to earn a second diploma alongside your main program. Your cumulative GPA (CGPA) must be at least 3.00, and you must be within the top 20% of your department.

• Minor: Enables you to earn a certificate by taking a limited number of courses from another department. A minimum CGPA of 2.50 is sufficient.

• Application Period: Applications are generally made at the beginning of the 3rd or 5th semester, on the dates specified in the academic calendar, either online or by petition.

(3) What are grade improvement and single course exams? How can I apply?

These two types of exams are intended for students at the graduation stage or those who wish to increase their GPA.

• Grade Improvement Exam: Students who cannot meet the required CGPA for graduation (2.00) may retake exams for courses they previously passed (such as DD or DC) to improve their grades.

• Single Course Exam: Offered to students who have only one remaining course for graduation (those who have passed all courses but failed one course, or whose CGPA remains below 2.00).

• Application: Applications are submitted to Student Affairs or the Faculty Secretariat on the "Single Course Exam" dates specified in the academic calendar after final/resit exam results are announced.

(4) How can I submit a grade appeal?

You may submit a grade appeal by clicking the "Appeal" button under the exam results menu in the Student Information System, completing the form, and submitting it to the Institute Secretariat.

(5) When and how can I receive my diploma?

Diplomas are prepared within a maximum of one year from the graduation date. You may collect your diploma from the Student Affairs Office (T Block, Ground Floor).

(6) Is class attendance mandatory?

Students are required to attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and at least 80% of practical and laboratory courses. Attendance is monitored by the course instructor and recorded in the system. Students may track their attendance status through the system. If absenteeism exceeds 30% in theoretical courses or 20% in practical/laboratory courses, the student automatically receives an NA grade and is not allowed to take the final exams.

(7) Is there an Erasmus Student Exchange Program?

Yes. Within the scope of the Erasmus Exchange Program, many students from European countries come to Istanbul Aydın University each year, and students are sent to partner institutions with which our university has agreements.

(8) How can one become an Honor or High Honor student?

(1) Students who have taken at least the normal course load of 30 ECTS and, at the end of an academic year, have a CGPA between 3.50–4.00 with no NA, I, FF, FD, E, W, or F grades are considered High Honor students. Students with a CGPA between 3.00–3.49 under the same conditions are considered Honor students. Honor or High Honor certificates are awarded accordingly.

(2) Students who complete their registered program with a CGPA of 3.00–3.49 graduate as Honor students, and those with a CGPA of 3.50 or higher graduate as High Honor students. This status is stated on their diplomas and recorded in the diploma supplement.
