Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to increase the knowledge of students in general chemistry in order to understand the theoretical and practical vocational courses.
Course Content -

Weekly Course Subjects

1Matter, atoms, molecules and compounds concept, classification and properties of matter, mole term, molarity term, preparation techniques of molar solution
2Periodic systems and Characteristics: Classification of elements, periodic law and periodic table, metals, non-metals and ions, the size of atoms and ions, ionization energy, electron affinity, magnetic properties, periodic properties of the elements.
3MOLE Concept and Chemical Calculations: Mole concept and Avogadro's number, the usage of mole concept in calculations, types of chemical compounds, balancing chemical reactions, oxidation-reduction steps.
4Chemical Bonding and Intermolecular Interactions: Nomenclature of inorganic and organic compounds and their formulas, intramolecular and intermolecular interactions.
5Gases and Basic Gas Laws: The properties of gases, gas pressure, simple gas laws, ideal and general gas equation and its applications, gases in chemical reactions, gas mixtures, kinetic and molecular theory of gases and gas properties depending on this theory.
6Solutions and Concentration Calculations: The structure of the aqueous solution, methods of preparing the solution, precipitation reactions, stoichiometry of the aqueous solution.
7Exam
8Biological importance of water, basic acid-base, buffer and pH concepts, acid-base reactions, preparation of buffer solutions and pH concept.
9Chemical Thermodynamics: Some terms in thermodynamics, heat, heat reaction and calorimetry, work, the laws of thermodynamics, heat reactin and its calculation.
10Chemical enthalpy: Enthalpy reaction, standard enthalpy reaction, Hess law, standard enthalpy formation.
