ISTANBUL AYDIN UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF EDUCATION
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
*How are new students admitted to our university and registered with the Faculty of Education?
The registration dates, locations, and required documents for students assigned to our faculty by the ÖSYM are detailed in the ÖSYM Guide and on our university's official website. You can find the registration procedures there.
*How do I get my student ID card, and what should I do if it gets lost?
Initial Registration: Student ID cards are given to students placed through the YKS during the initial registration process. Students transferring internally or those admitted through additional quotas can pick up their ID cards right after finishing registration.
Loss/Theft: If your ID card is lost or stolen, you must contact the Student Affairs Directorate on the ground floor of Block T immediately.
*What should I do if my personal details change (name, surname, marital status, etc.)?
You need to submit a written request to the Student Affairs Office, including your new ID and, if applicable, a certified copy of the court decision. If you're requesting a new ID card, mention this in your request and return your old card.
*What can I access through the Student Information System (UBIS)?
UBIS serves as the central platform for your academic activities at the Faculty of Education. With it, you can track your grades, attendance, exam dates, and receive faculty announcements. You also use UBIS to enroll in courses and renew your registration at the beginning of each term.
*I have forgotten my UBIS password and cannot log in. What steps should I take?
On the UBIS login page, select the 'Forgot Password' link and attempt to set a new password that avoids easily guessable details like your name, surname, or date of birth. If you still encounter issues, contact our Technical Support team by dialing the internal line through our call center at 444 1 44. You can also visit the Student Affairs Directorate in person to request a new password.
*Is attendance mandatory at the Faculty of Education?
Yes, students must attend, with a minimum of 70% participation in theoretical courses. Students who surpass the allowed absence limit automatically receive an NA (Failed due to Absence) mark and are ineligible to take the final exams for that course.
*Is attendance necessary for Teaching Practice courses?
Yes, students must attend the Teaching Practice school for at least 72 hours (12 weeks x 6 hours) during one term as part of their teaching practice.
*How do I register for courses? Should I first retake the courses I did not pass in previous years before selecting my graded courses?
At the start of each semester, within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar, you must select your courses via UBİS and have them approved by your academic advisor. The system automatically assigns courses that you failed or were excluded from due to poor attendance in previous years. You then select your courses for the new semester under your advisor's supervision, depending on your remaining credit requirements.
*What does a prerequisite course mean? Are there any prerequisite courses in the Faculty of Education?
A prerequisite course is one that requires you to have successfully passed a specific course in previous semesters before you can enroll. You can review the prerequisite courses for your registered teacher training program in your department's course plan.
*If my letter grade is AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC, can I take a resit exam to improve my mark?
No. According to our Education and Teaching Regulations, only students with letter grades of FF, FD, DD, and DC are eligible to sit resit exams. Students who have failed due to absence (NA) are not permitted to take the resit.
*If my resit mark is lower than my final mark, which one counts?
In the system, the most recent mark is always the one that counts. When you take a resit exam, your resit mark—not your final mark—is used in the calculation.
*How can I be exempted from courses I have already taken at my previous university?
Students who have enrolled at our faculty may submit a request for exemption to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Education within the first week of the academic year for courses they have previously passed. An official transcript and course syllabi must be attached to the request.
*Can I choose a placement school near my home for the Teaching Practice course?
No. Schools for practice (e.g., for Early Years Education or other teacher training programmes) are selected in accordance with official criteria determined by the relevant programme's coordination unit and the Ministry of National Education (MEB). Therefore, it is not possible for students to select or change their teaching practice school individually.
*What are the requirements for taking courses from higher years?
To be eligible to enroll in courses from advanced semesters, a student's Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) must be at least 3.00 or higher. Additionally, the student must not have any failed courses with grades of FF, FD, or NA (failed due to absence) from previous semesters.
*As a Faculty of Education student, can I undertake a Double Major or a Minor?
Yes, students who meet the required GPA criteria may pursue a Double Major or Minor in another programme at our university (or in a different program within the Faculty of Education). Detailed application requirements are set out in our university's academic regulations.
*How can a student achieve Honours or High Honours in the Faculty of Education?
Honours Student: Students whose Term/Overall Grade Point Average (GPA) falls between 3.00 and 3.49 and who have not failed any courses (NA, FF, FD, etc.).
High Honors Student: Students with a Semester/Overall Grade Point Average (GPA) between 3.50 and 4.00 and no failed courses.
This academic distinction is officially listed on your graduation certificates and diploma supplements (Diploma Supplement).
*I am in the final year of my degree. Can I take a compulsory or departmental elective course in the spring term that I did not take in the autumn term?
No. According to our Education and Teaching Regulations, every student must take courses in the terms specified in their academic timetable (curriculum). Autumn term courses are only available in the autumn term, and spring term courses are only available in the spring term.
*How can I find out if my diploma is ready? What should I do if I lose it?
You can obtain information about the status of your diploma via [email protected]. Until your diploma is ready, you can obtain a 'Provisional Graduation Certificate' from the Student Affairs Office. You must return this provisional certificate (or provide a notarised power of attorney) when collecting your diploma.
If you lose your diploma, you must submit a 'Diploma Loss Application Form' to the Student Affairs Office; a new document marked 'Second Copy (Duplicate)' will be issued to you.
*Where do I submit my application to freeze my registration?
If you have valid reasons like health, family, or financial issues, you should apply to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Education at the beginning of the semester and before the course registration deadline, providing supporting documents. Undergraduate students are allowed to freeze their registration for up to four semesters during their studies.
