There are two programs at Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine. The language of instruction of the Turkish program is entirely Turkish. In the English program, the first three years are conducted entirely in English. Starting from the 4th year, during clinical education, bedside training is conducted in Turkish, while lectures continue in both English and Turkish.

How is language proficiency determined for the English program?

English proficiency is determined based on the result of the language proficiency exam administered by the university or internationally and nationally recognized exams (such as TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE, KPDS, YDS, YÖKDİL, etc.). Students who fail the language proficiency exam are required to attend a one-year English preparatory program. Students who successfully complete this period start the 1st year of the Faculty of Medicine English Program. Students who fail are granted an additional one-year period. Students who fail again at the end of this period will be dismissed from the university.

Is there a language requirement for international students who wish to study in the Turkish program?

The language of instruction of the Faculty of Medicine Turkish Program is Turkish. International students enrolled in this program are required to document that their Turkish proficiency level is at least C1. Students who cannot certify their Turkish proficiency at this level must take the Turkish Language Proficiency Exam administered by the Istanbul Aydın University Turkish Teaching and Research Center. Students who fail this exam are required to attend a one-year Turkish language program at the Istanbul Aydın University Turkish Teaching and Research Center. Students who fail the proficiency exam at the end of this period are granted an additional one-year period. Students who fail again at the end of this period will be dismissed from the university.

What is the education program of the Faculty of Medicine like?

The Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine Education Program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to train future healthcare professionals. This program aims to provide students with a broad set of knowledge and skills covering the fundamentals of medical science, diagnostic and treatment methods of diseases, patient care, and health management. Therefore, medical education is implemented in line with the Core Curriculum. Starting from molecules that form cells—the smallest unit of life—to complex systems and pathologies, the program approaches bodily systems holistically. After completing this program, students are able to communicate with real patients during the clinical period. In the 4th and 5th years, through Clinical Practical Courses, students encounter real patient cases directly in hospitals and clinical settings. During this period, theoretical knowledge is integrated with clinical practice to develop students’ skills in patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning. During the internship period, students have the opportunity to fully apply their acquired knowledge and skills by practicing medicine in hospitals and field settings under the supervision of faculty members for one year. Medical education also promotes skills such as research, leadership, teamwork, and continuous professional development. Students are equipped with the ability to conduct scientific research, review medical literature, and follow current developments. In addition, topics such as patient safety, patient rights, and public health are emphasized to ensure that students adopt a community-oriented approach to medicine.

Where is the education conducted?

English Preparatory education and the three-year basic medical sciences education are conducted at Istanbul Aydın University Halit Aydın Florya Campus. Starting from the 4th year, education continues at Istanbul Aydın University Health Application and Research Center Hospital located next to the Florya Campus and at other training and research hospitals designated by the Provincial Directorate of Health (Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital).

Are there opportunities for education abroad and Erasmus exchange?

From the early years onward, opportunities for summer internships and laboratory studies at different educational institutions are researched and supported for all students. Within the scope of the Erasmus Exchange Program, students from many European countries come to Istanbul Aydın University every year, and students are sent to partner institutions with which the university has agreements.
