What is the language of instruction?
There are two programs at Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine. The medium of instruction in the Turkish program is entirely Turkish. In the English program, the first three years are fully conducted in English; however, during the clinical training that begins in the 4th year, bedside training is delivered in Turkish while theoretical courses continue in a combination of English and Turkish.
How is English proficiency determined for the English program?
English proficiency is determined based on the results of the university’s English proficiency exam or nationally/internationally recognized exams (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE, KPDS, YDS, YÖKDİL, etc.). Students who fail the proficiency test are required to attend a one-year preparatory program. Students who successfully complete this program may begin Year 1 of the English Medicine Program. Those who fail are granted an additional year. Students who are unsuccessful at the end of this additional period are dismissed from the university.
Is there a language requirement for international students who wish to study in the Turkish program?
The medium of instruction in the Turkish Medicine Program is Turkish. International students enrolled in this program must document a minimum Turkish proficiency level of C1. Students who cannot provide such documentation must take the Turkish language exam administered by the Istanbul Aydın University Turkish Teaching and Research Center. Those who do not pass are required to complete a one-year Turkish language program. Students who fail the exam at the end of this period are granted an additional year; students who remain unsuccessful after this period are dismissed from the university.
What is the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine?
The Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine curriculum is a comprehensive program designed to train future healthcare professionals. It aims to equip students with a broad set of knowledge and skills covering medical sciences, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, patient care, and healthcare management. Accordingly, medical education is implemented in line with the Core Curriculum. This program begins with the basic molecular structures that constitute cells, the smallest unit of life, and continues through organ systems and pathologies, allowing students to understand the human organism as an integrated whole. During the clinical phase, students interact directly with real patients. In Years 4 and 5, students encounter real patient cases during Clinical Practice Courses in hospital and clinical settings. In this period, theoretical knowledge is combined with clinical applications, enabling students to develop skills such as patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. During the internship (internship year), students actively practice medicine under the supervision of faculty members for one year, gaining the opportunity to fully apply their knowledge and skills. Medical education also promotes research, leadership, teamwork, and continuous professional development. Students are encouraged to conduct scientific research, review medical literature, and stay up to date with current advancements. Additionally, topics such as patient safety, patient rights, and public health are emphasized to cultivate a community-oriented understanding of medicine.
