Prof. Dr. Duygu Şahin graduated from the Department of Biology at Ankara University Faculty of Science in 2003. After completing her master's degree in 2007 at the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, she obtained her Ph.D. in 2013 with her dissertation titled “Possible Effects of Diabetes Mellitus on Brain Insulin-PI3K Signaling Pathway and Tau Hyperphosphorylation,” earning the title of “Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).” During her doctoral studies, she spent three months at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark as a visiting doctoral researcher, participating in a scientific research project on DNA damage. Between 2005 and 2013, she served as a Research Assistant at Gazi University Institute of Health Sciences/Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Biochemistry. From 2014 to 2017, she worked as an Instructor Dr. at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Biochemistry. In 2017, she joined Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Biochemistry, as an Assistant Professor. She received the title of Associate Professor in 2018 and Professor in October 2023. Her research interests include oxidative DNA damage, molecular links between diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases, and nutrition-metabolism.
