Purpose and Content

The aim of the course 1. Utilize the use of a structured approach for each and every unique project undertaken including utilizing project management concepts, tools, and techniques. 2. Lead project management teams in your organization for success. 3. Understand the project management lifecycle and be knowledgeable on the various phases from project initiation through closure. 4. Improve cost, schedule and quality management as well as project success with efficient and effective project management. 5. Understand how to kick off project planning by defining the project’s business requirements, identifying the project stakeholders, and writing and gaining approval of a project charter. 6. Develop detailed project plan to include: Defining a project’s scope and tasks by using the WBS technique, estimating task resource needs, assessing project risk and response strategies, a communications plan, and more. 7. Measure and report on the project’s progress including identifying and utilizing key performance metrics. 8. Discuss techniques for identifying managing change to project’s scope. 9. Recognize and mitigate the reasons for failure in the project life cycle 10. Impart project management knowledge, tools, and processes to colleagues 11. Understand the critical role an strong project manager plays in project success
Course Content This course provides students with a practical understanding of successful process and project planning and management in a business or personal setting. Emphasis will be on using project management tools and techniques tailored for small and medium-sized organizations. The course will help students to develop their project management skills and provide them with the tools required to manage all phases of project including initiation, planning, executing, controlling and closing projects. The use of project management techniques such as developing a project charter, stakeholder identification, developing the scope of the project via a work breakdown structure (WBS), schedule development, team management and tracking projects will be covered. The role of the successful project manager will also be discussed.
