  Uzbek Engineers Complete Earthquake Safety Training at IAU

   


<p>​<span style="font-size: 10.5pt; text-align: justify;">IAU offered a comprehensive four-week seismic safety and disaster preparedness program to 40 engineers and researchers from Uzbekistan. This academic collaboration between Türkiye and Uzbekistan, with contributions from institutions such as the Kandilli Observatory and AFAD, aimed to strengthen global disaster awareness.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; text-align: justify;">Istanbul Aydın University (IAU) successfully completed the “Training and Applied Internship Program in Seismic Safety and Disaster Preparedness,” hosting a 40-member delegation of researchers and engineers from Uzbekistan. The four-week program strengthened academic and scientific ties between the two countries while elevating the knowledge and experience of young researchers in disaster preparedness to a higher level.<br/></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; text-align: justify;">The certificate ceremony was attended by Sherzod Abdunazarov, Consul General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, and Prof. Dr. Ragıp Kutay Karaca, Vice Rector of Istanbul Aydın University.<br/></span></p><p rtenodeid="19"><strong>Lasted Four Weeks, Critical Information Was Shared</strong></p><p>The intensive training program, which began on November 3, 2025, with the contributions of the IAU Continuing Education Center (SEM) and the Faculty of Engineering, ended with a ceremony held on November 28, 2025. The program aimed to improve participants&#39; practical skills through field applications as well as theoretical knowledge.<br/></p><p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; text-align: justify;">It was emphasized that the main objective of the program is to strengthen the knowledge base of young researchers and engineers in the areas of disaster risk management, earthquake safety, structural resilience, emergency planning, and response processes.</span></p><p rtenodeid="28"><strong>Strengthened Through Public-Academic Collaboration</strong></p><p>The training was supported by the collaboration of many important national and international institutions. According to information provided by Istanbul Aydın University, the program was strengthened by valuable contributions from critical institutions such as the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as Kandilli Observatory from Türkiye, ITU Disaster Management Institute, and AFAD.<br/></p><p><strong>Appreciation to IAU from Consul General</strong></p><p>The certificate ceremony at the end of the program also attracted significant interest at the diplomatic level. Sherzod Abdunazarov, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, also attended the ceremony and emphasized the importance of the program. The Consul General noted that such international educational collaborations further strengthen academic and scientific relations between the two countries.<br/></p><p>Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Ragıp Kutay Karaca, who attended the ceremony, congratulated all participants on their achievements in his brief speech.
