Medicine, which has gone through stages until the 19th century, has reached today's modern and scientific state.
Taking the History of Medicine and Ethics courses in the Faculties of Medicine in Europe XIX is towards the end of the century. The situation in our country is almost the same. Considering that the medical education really started in 1827 in Istanbul Şehzadebaşı; In 1839, "Askeriye-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane", which was a Military Medical School, was modern in its age. In this school, in 1874, under the name of "Vezaif-i Tıbbiye" (Duties of Physicians), "Deontology" (Science of Duty) mainly took its place in the curriculum. The course, which was given by different professors until 1933 Atatürk's University Reform, was now established as an independent chair in the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine as History of Medicine and Deontology. Ordinarius Prof. Dr. Süheyl ÜNVER was elected as the chair of the chair. According to the University Law No. 1750, the name of the branch was determined as the Department of History of Medicine and Deontology. The branch, which was named "Department" in 1981 according to the law numbered 2547, takes its place in medical education as "Medical History and Ethics Department".
