• The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics is a branch of medical science that focuses on the study of genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying normal and pathological conditions in humans. The chapter explores the molecular basis of inheritance, the regulation of gene expression, and the mechanisms of genetic variation that underlie health and disease.
• Medical biology and genetics are fundamental to the understanding of human biology and play a pivotal role in medical research, diagnosis and treatment, and uses a variety of laboratory techniques such as DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis and genetic engineering to study the molecular basis of human health and disease.
• The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics is responsible for training medical professionals and researchers in the principles and practices of molecular biology and genetics. Students in this department are provided with a strong foundation in genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology, and are trained to apply this knowledge in research and clinical settings.
  
• Objectives of the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics:

1. Investigate the genetic and molecular mechanisms that underlie human development, growth, and disease.
2. Develop new diagnostic tools and therapies for genetic disorders and other diseases.
3. Identify genetic risk factors for common diseases and develop strategies for disease prevention.
4. To strengthen fundamental research as the core for translational research to improve genetic diagnosis and therapy based on improved understanding of underlying mechanisms for the onset, progression and inheritance of genetic disorders.
5. Train the next generation of medical professionals and researchers in the principles and practices of molecular biology and genetics.
6. Collaborate with other departments and institutions to promote interdisciplinary research and to advance our understanding of human health and disease.

• Within our university, there are molecular genetics, cell/tissue culture and imaging laboratories belonging to our department, with technological competence in the field of genome science, where basic research can be carried out at international level. In our laboratories, research on cancer genetics, medical biotechnology, nutrigenomics, proteomics and bioinformatics continues, as well as the application of medical biology and genetics course practices of undergraduate medical students.
