PHYSIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

  • unnamed-2.jpg
The Department of Medical Physiology is a branch of medical science that focuses on the study of the physiological functions of the human body. It is an important discipline that deals with the mechanisms of how various systems and organs in the body work and how they interact with each other to maintain homeostasis. Medical physiologists study various aspects of the body's functions, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. They use a wide variety of techniques and tools to investigate how these systems work, including cellular and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, biophysics and imaging technologies. Research conducted in the Department of Medical Physiology is aimed at understanding the basic mechanisms underlying human physiology and how they are affected by disease.
Some of the core functions of the Department of Physiology in the School of Medicine include:
  1. Research: The Department of Physiology conduct research to explore the mechanisms of normal physiological functions, as well as the underlying causes of disease and dysfunction. This research can involve a wide variety of techniques, including molecular biology, electrophysiology and imaging.
  2. Education: The Department of Physiology is responsible for providing information to medical students and other healthcare professionals about the normal physiological functions of the human body and the mechanisms of disease and dysfunction. These lectures include seminars, practical sessions and other teaching activities.
  3. Service: The Department of Physiology provide expertise and support to other departments and researchers within the Faculty of Medicine, as well as to external organizations such as hospitals, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies. This may include providing technical support, consulting on research projects, or contributing to the development of new treatments and therapies.
  4. Overall, the Department of Physiology plays a critical role in medical education and research by providing the foundation of knowledge and understanding of the human body necessary for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
In short, the primary purpose of physiology courses is to give students the awareness that human physiology is the basis for all the practices they will do throughout their professional life. In addition, with the course, it is aimed that the students have sufficient and basic knowledge about all physiological systems. Thus, a knowledge base will be prepared for students to be able to understand the clinical information they will learn in the upper grades.

Our Mission
The main task of the Department of Physiology is to advance scientific knowledge about the mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal physiological functions in order to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This mission is often accomplished through a combination of research, education and service activities. In our Physiology Department, our young people who will become physicians in the future are equipped with rapidly changing and constantly renewed physiology information and the most basic medical practice training is provided. In addition, it is within our mission to provide advanced physiology trainings such as graduate, doctoral and medical specialization of young academicians. In our department, scientific researches are carried out on various subjects of physiology (Electrophysiological measurements and analyzes; Arousal / Event-Related Potential analyzes; Electrodermal activity). Our aim: To provide education and research at contemporary standards, To create a pioneering working environment where advanced technologies are used, To be recognized at national and international level, To contribute to the creation of a common research infrastructure and centers that will carry the knowledge we have obtained from basic practices to clinical areas.

Our Vision
The vision of the Department of Physiology is to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying human physiology and to use this knowledge to improve human health and well-being.
  1. The Department of Physiology aims to realize this vision through research, education and clinical practice. Research conducted in the department focuses on understanding the molecular, cellular and systemic mechanisms of physiological processes in health and disease. This research provides the basis for developing new therapies and treatments for a range of diseases and conditions.
  2. In terms of education, the department's vision is to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles of physiology and to prepare them for careers in research, teaching and clinical practice. This includes offering high-quality courses, training programs and research opportunities that allow students to gain hands-on experience in the field.
  3. Finally, the clinical practice of physiology includes the application of knowledge and techniques from physiology research to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. A Physiology Department's vision may include a commitment to work with clinicians to translate research findings into clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
