Program Overview

The English Language Teaching Program is an undergraduate program offered within the Faculty of Education, aiming to train qualified English language teachers who will serve at secondary and related levels of education. The program is structured in line with the principles of contemporary education and seeks to educate teachers and researchers who possess scientific and critical thinking skills, can adapt to technological developments, and closely follow current advancements in their field.

The program is designed in accordance with Level 6 qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TQF). It adopts a holistic approach that integrates subject-matter knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and professional teaching competencies. The curriculum includes courses in linguistics, applied linguistics, teaching English as a foreign language, literature, and cultural studies, as well as professional and pedagogical courses such as teaching methods and techniques, measurement and evaluation, educational psychology, guidance, and classroom management. Course contents are regularly reviewed and updated in line with teacher competencies and contemporary approaches in language education.

The primary objective of the program is to educate qualified teachers and researchers equipped with advanced knowledge and skills who can contribute to the solution of challenges in English language education in Türkiye through contemporary methods and approaches. In this context, the program emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with practice and the adoption of evidence-based teaching practices.

Teacher candidates gain professional experience through teaching practice courses conducted in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. The program offers opportunities for minor and double major studies, participation in international exchange programs for one or two semesters, and continuation to graduate studies after graduation.

The English Language Teaching Program was placed within the Turkish Qualifications Framework on 25 March 2025 with the Qualification Code TR0030027807. In order to graduate, students are required to successfully complete all courses in the curriculum, fulfill a total of 240 ECTS credits, and meet other conditions specified in the relevant regulations.
