Online Courses: Legal and Academic Framework
As of the 2025-2026 academic year, in accordance with a decision taken by the Istanbul Aydın University Senate, certain courses in higher education programs are conducted in an online (online/distance education) environment. In this context, common courses included in formal education programs and the courses of distance education diploma programs are offered online. Students' access to online courses and their follow-up processes are carried out through the university's distance education platform.
Common Courses and Online Application
In the educational activities carried out within the university, common courses are compulsory courses that can be taken by all students regardless of faculty or program. In the 2025-2026 fall semester, 13 common courses are offered through distance education:

These courses are offered within the scope of the common curriculum for all undergraduate and associate degree students and are conducted online in accordance with the senate decision; however, exams can be held face-to-face.
Conducting common courses remotely is complementary to formal education while supporting the principles of equal opportunity and flexibility in education.
Presentation Formats of Online Courses
Online courses are generally conducted in two basic methods:
a) Asynchronous Courses:
After logging into the system, students can watch and follow the course materials whenever they want. These materials include contents such as;
Course videos
Slides
Reading and additional resource files
Assessment tools (exams, quizzes)
and other similar materials.
b) Synchronous Live Courses:
It is an application where the instructor and the students meet in a live virtual classroom environment on a designated day and time. This teaching method is interactive and includes Q&As, discussions, and live lectures. The synchronous course recording can be made available to students to be re-watched later.
Both presentation formats are standardized in terms of accreditation regarding effective tracking of learning outcomes, access flexibility, and process reliability.
Our Platform and Learning Management
Online courses are conducted via UBIS, the official distance education platform of Istanbul Aydın University. These platform enable students to:
Log into courses
Access course contents
Follow virtual classes
Access assessments
Perform material upload and download operations
acting as a comprehensive learning management system.
Student and instructor access is provided via UBIS; students can view their registered courses through the "My Online Courses" section.
Technical and Pedagogical Infrastructure
Courses conducted over UZEP are supported by a strong technical infrastructure. The platform features;
Virtual classroom integration, live broadcast, and recording support
Student tracking reports and attendance analysis
Material sharing module
Academic calendar and assessment tools
Material sharing and students' access to these contents are controlled through the system.
Evaluation and Tracking Processes
Measurement and evaluation processes of online courses are also planned in digital environments. Within the scope of accreditation, outputs such as evaluation reports, student success data, and attendance tracking records can be obtained through the system. In this way, the harmony between program outputs and educational processes can be monitored and quality assurance can be provided.
At Istanbul Aydın University, online courses are implemented within the framework of common courses and distance education programs in a manner that is compatible with accreditation standards, accessible, transparent, and pedagogically supported. These practices are supported by the effective use of educational technologies, traceability through learning management systems, different teaching methods, and evaluation mechanisms.
