At the Istanbul Aydın University (IAU) Department of Recreation, student transfers, course exemptions and adaptation processes are conducted with meticulous adherence to the university's internal directives and the regulations of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Principles of Horizontal Transfer
Horizontal transfers to the Department of Recreation are executed in three categories—internal (within the institution), inter-institutional and international—under the framework of the Istanbul Aydın University Directive on Horizontal Transfers for Associate and Undergraduate Programs.
- General Requirements: Applicants must have a clean disciplinary record. Horizontal transfers are not permitted during the first and final years of undergraduate programs.
- Academic Performance Criteria: A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.29 out of 4.00 is required for application.
- Transfer via Central Placement Score: Students who do not meet the CGPA requirement (2.29) may apply if their central placement score (YKS) is equal to or higher than the base score of the Recreation program for the relevant year.
- Special Talent Examination Condition: For transfers from programs that admit students via central placement to programs that require a Special Talent Examination (such as Recreation), success in the said examination is mandatory. Conversely, transfers from programs requiring a special talent examination to those admitting students via central placement are not permitted.
- Quotas: Internal horizontal transfer quotas are determined not to exceed 15% of the student quota specified in the relevant year's OSYM guide.
Principles of Vertical Transfer
Transfers of associate degree (two-year) graduates to the Recreation undergraduate program are conducted in accordance with the Istanbul Aydın University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations and relevant national legislation.
Recognition of Prior Learning and Adaptation
The recognition of academic achievements earned in previous educational backgrounds and the adaptation processes to the current program are based on the following principles:
- Exemption and Adjustment (Adaptation) Process: Courses successfully completed by students arriving via horizontal or vertical transfer are evaluated under the Istanbul Aydın University Directive on Course Exemption and Adaptation.
- Evaluation Commission: Commissions established by the relevant executive boards review the student's prior course content and credits (ECTS). These commissions determine the specific semester of adaptation, identify courses for exemption and specify any additional courses the student must take.
- Credit and Grade Transfer: Successfully recognized courses are recorded on the student's transcript and these grades are included in the calculation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
- Transparency and Notification: Course recognition and adaptation processes become official upon the approval of the Faculty Executive Board and the final decisions are formally communicated to the students in writing.
Recognition of the Double Major Program (DMP)
Specific recognition rules apply to students enrolled in a Double Major. Equivalent courses taken in the major program are transferred to the DMP transcript along with their respective grades and are included in the graduation credits. Success in the Special Talent Examination is also a prerequisite for admission to the Double Major program in Recreation.
