Istanbul Aydın University embraces a vision that responds to the requirements of the rapidly changing and transforming digital age by redefining scientific production not merely at the level of theoretical knowledge, but along the axes of practice, technology, and entrepreneurship. In line with this vision, our university aims to integrate scientific knowledge with technology in a way that creates social impact by establishing sustainable research platforms with high multiplier effects.
As the Department of New Media and Communication, we educate communication professionals who are not only consumers of media content, but also capable of producing, managing, and analyzing such content using the most up-to-date technologies. Within a broad field of application that goes beyond digital literacy—ranging from AI-assisted content production to algorithmic media analysis, and from augmented reality to virtual experience design—we equip our students with a multidisciplinary way of thinking.
As a concrete outcome of this approach, the VRlab (Virtual Reality Laboratory) established within our department is not merely a space for practice, but also a center for creative thinking and experimental work focused on the future of digital communication. Through this laboratory, our students undertake projects that make a difference at both academic and industry levels by producing content and technologies based on the virtual representation of reality. VRlab supports creative production across a spectrum ranging from gamified experiences to metaverse scenarios.
The goal of our department is to educate communication professionals who not only use technology, but can also interpret it, direct it, and transform it with a critical perspective. In this context, we attach great importance to enabling our students to gain experience in different cultural contexts by developing national and international collaborations. Through Erasmus+, bilateral agreements, and projects carried out with industry partners, our students not only keep pace with the dynamics of the new media age, but also attain the competence to become pioneers of this transformation.
With its academic atmosphere that prioritizes individual development, encourages creativity, and supports innovation, the Department of New Media and Communication at Istanbul Aydın University is committed to educating the digital communication experts of the future.
