Horizontal Transfer
Istanbul Aydın University accepts applications for horizontal transfer to the New Media and Communication Program in accordance with the procedures and principles determined by the regulations of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Horizontal transfers are carried out under different application types, including internal transfers, inter-university transfers, international transfers, and transfers based on the central placement score (Additional Article-1). Applications are received in line with the announced academic calendar, evaluated by the relevant commissions, and the results are announced on the specified dates. Applicants are required to submit all necessary documents in full and to take into consideration the announced quotas and conditions. Registration procedures for accepted students are completed within the specified period, and substitute placements may be made from the waiting list for candidates who do not complete their registration. The horizontal transfer process to the Department of New Media and Communication at Istanbul Aydın University is conducted in accordance with the principles of transparency, academic compatibility, and compliance with regulations.
Vertical Transfer
The vertical transfer process at Istanbul Aydın University is an application based on the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), allowing students who have graduated from associate degree programs to be placed in undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). The university offers a wide range of department options, sufficient quotas, and academic guidance support to candidates placed via DGS. Courses completed during associate degree education by students registering through vertical transfer are evaluated by the relevant academic units, and exemption and adaptation (credit transfer) procedures are carried out for courses with compatible content and credit values. The adaptation process of students to the New Media and Communication undergraduate program is conducted in line with the decisions of the adaptation commissions. In addition, the university may offer scholarships and tuition discounts to students who are placed in their top choices through their DGS scores. The vertical transfer system at Istanbul Aydın University is structured as a planned and regulation-compliant transition mechanism that supports students’ academic continuity.
Adaptation (Credit Transfer and Exemptions)
At the Department of New Media and Communication at Istanbul Aydın University, adaptation and course exemption procedures are carried out in accordance with the university’s Exemption and Adaptation Regulation, as there is no separate department-specific regulation. Accordingly, students who are newly enrolled at the university, who transfer horizontally or vertically, or who have previously studied at another higher education institution may apply for exemption and adaptation for courses they have successfully completed. Students must submit their requests to the relevant unit within the first week of the academic term, together with their transcripts and approved course descriptions. Applications are evaluated by the departmental adaptation commission by considering course content and ECTS credits; equivalency may be granted if courses have at least 80% content compatibility and 65% ECTS compatibility. Until an exemption decision is finalized, students are required to continue attending the course. For students admitted through central placement, the total credit of exempted courses may not exceed 50% of the total credits of the program. No exemption is granted for graduation projects, and re-application is not allowed for rejected courses. Adaptation and exemption decisions are finalized by the relevant administrative board, and objections may be submitted within five business days from the announcement date.
Principles of Recognition of Prior Learning
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a credit system developed by the European Commission in 1989 within the scope of the Erasmus Programme (now the Lifelong Learning Programme) to support the objectives of the European Higher Education Area (Bologna Process). Based on student workload and learning outcomes, ECTS aims to increase international transparency in higher education and to facilitate student mobility and the recognition of studies completed abroad. ECTS is also widely adopted across European countries and provides a systematic approach that contributes significantly to the design, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of curricula and course contents based on workload, thereby enhancing the quality assurance of higher education programs.
In achieving its strategic objectives related to national and international education and training processes, Istanbul Aydın University has adopted ECTS principles and practices as a quality assurance tool. These practices are aligned with the Level and Field Qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education and are used to define course contents, allocate credits based on workload, and design, implement, review, and improve teaching, learning, assessment, and evaluation processes, while ensuring national and international transparency.
For this purpose, the IAU Education–Teaching Information System (IAU-EÖBS) has been designed and implemented as integrated software with the university’s other systems, primarily to ensure the active participation of administrative and academic staff in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of educational processes.
Moreover, IAU-EÖBS includes all elements of the ECTS Information Package and has been developed as a web-based information system that enables domestic and international students, prospective students, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders to easily access detailed information on the university’s associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs. This includes program aims and objectives, learning outcomes, course contents and credits, teaching and learning methods, assessment and evaluation criteria, academic progression and career opportunities, as well as comprehensive institutional, social, cultural, and campus-related information that may be required.
