Program Overview

The Elementary Education Program is an undergraduate program offered by the Department of Elementary Education within the Faculty of Education, designed to train elementary school teachers for the elementary education level. Operating under the Department of Primary Education until the end of the 2015-2016 academic year, the program was restructured as a major under the Department of Basic Education in accordance with the Council of Higher Education's (YÖK) decision dated June 17, 2016, numbered 75.850.160-101.03.01-36826.
The program is structured in line with the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ) Level 6 qualifications and takes a holistic approach to subject knowledge, pedagogical subject knowledge, and professional knowledge. The scope of the program consists of courses aimed at teaching basic disciplines such as mathematics, science, Turkish, life skills, social studies, music, art, and physical education, as well as professional and pedagogical courses such as child psychology, children's literature, human rights, guidance and psychological counseling, measurement and evaluation, teaching methods and techniques, and classroom management. Course content is regularly reviewed and updated in line with teacher competencies and current educational science approaches.
The program's academic approach is based on enabling teacher candidates to integrate theoretical knowledge with practice, develop critical and reflective thinking skills, and adopt evidence-based teaching practices. In this regard, teacher candidates gain professional experience through teaching placements spread over two academic terms in state and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. Distinctive features of the program include a practice-oriented educational approach, minor and double-major opportunities, mobility opportunities through international exchange programs, and guidance towards postgraduate education after graduation. The program is based on systematic measurement and evaluation processes to monitor program outcomes and ensure the sustainability of the continuous improvement approach. To graduate from the CLASSROOM TEACHING Program, students must successfully complete all courses in the curriculum, earn a total of 240 ECTS credits, and fulfill other requirements specified in the relevant regulations.
