ISTANBUL AYDIN UNIVERSITY CERTIFIES ITS TEACHING STAFF
Faculty members who participated in the "Technological Approaches and Learning Models in Higher Education" training organized by the Istanbul Aydın University STEM Education Application and Research Center graduated with their certificates.
As part of the "Transformation in Higher Education: Blended Learning Model on the Path to E-University" project, which Istanbul Aydın University (IAU) has been implementing since 2020, faculty members who participated in the "Technological Approaches and Learning Models in Higher Education" training organized by the IAU STEM Education Application and Research Center graduated with their certificates at a ceremony held at the university.
120-HOUR TRAINING PROGRAM
Conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. As part of a project led by Devrim Akgündüz, a 120-hour certification program was developed to develop academics' competencies in technological approaches and learning models in education and to enable them to teach courses using this model. The program covered topics such as technology integration, technological pedagogical content knowledge, the blended learning model and its sub-models, enriching instruction with Web 2.0 tools, effective learning with learning management systems, cloud computing and cloud collaboration, and technological assessment methods and process-based evaluation. Academics received training independent of time and location through synchronous and asynchronous courses.
WHAT TOPICS WERE TRAINED?
The certification program, in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Devrim Akgündüz and Dr. Ayşegül Kınık Topalsan served as instructors, provided academics with training in self-paced learning, taking responsibility for their own learning, 24/7 feedback and communication, learning independent of time and location, and robust applications in face-to-face environments. Participants from all faculties and colleges of Istanbul Aydın University participated in the certification program, which concluded with a portfolio assessment and exam. Successful participants were presented with certificates in the presence of Prof. Dr. Elif Yeşim Üstün, Dean of the Faculty of Education at IAU.
RECTOR İZMİRLİ: "WE CLOSELY FOLLOW TECHNOLOGY"
İAÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Yadigâr İzmirli made a statement on the subject, stating that IAU closely follows technological developments and updates the knowledge of its academic staff. He also stated that, as part of this project, they are teaching some of their courses in the fall 2021 semester using a blended learning model with faculty members who have received certification in this program, and that they are providing incentives to the academics who participate. Prof. İzmirli stated that with the increased technological competence of its faculty, IAU will rapidly progress towards becoming a technological university.
Project manager and instructor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akgündüz stated that they would hold the second 120-hour academic certification program between January and March 2022 and that they would continue to prepare faculty for the new term with similar programs. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates.
