          Recognized by the United Nations as an international day, on the occasion of the “3 December International Day of Persons with Disabilities,” the panel titled “Local Government Projects Facilitating the Social Lives of Persons with Disabilities,” organized in partnership with Istanbul Aydın University Center for Disabled Life Practice and Research and Istanbul Aydın University Social Research Practice and Research Center, was held at our university on Thursday, 29 November 2018.

            Mayor of Izmir Balçova Mr. Mehmet Ali ÇALKAYA, Mayor of Malatya Yeşilyurt Mr. Mehmet ÇINAR, representing Istanbul Bağcılar Mayor Mr. Lokman ÇAĞIRICI the Bağcılar Municipality Deputy Mayor Mr. Atty. Mehmet ŞİRİN, and representing Bursa Nilüfer Mayor Mr. Mustafa BOZBEY Ms. Atty. Nilgün BERK participated as panelists, and many local administrators attended the program...

          At the panel where Istanbul Aydın University Rector Prof. Dr. Yadigâr İZMİRLİ delivered the opening speech, IAÜ Faculty of Medicine Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Histology and Embryology Division Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ayhan BİLİR also gave a presentation titled “Cell, Embryo and Disability,” providing important information on preventive measures to be taken before disabled births occur...

Subsequently, the panel was moderated by former Founding Director General of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, and Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Health Sciences Social Work Department Lecturer Dr. Aylin ÇİFTÇİ. Speaking at the program and sharing the efforts of Izmir Balçova Municipality on “including persons with disabilities in social life,” Izmir Balçova Mayor Mr. Mehmet Ali ÇALKAYA said, “We must show serious sensitivity when it comes to integrating our citizens with disabilities into social life.”

          Among our university’s significant research centers, the Center for Disabled Life Practice and Research (IAU EYPRO) and the Social Research Practice and Research Center (IAU TARMER) jointly organized the panel “Local Government Projects Facilitating the Social Lives of Persons with Disabilities” on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December. Speaking about the activities of Malatya Yeşilyurt Municipality in this field, Malatya Yeşilyurt Mayor Mr. Mehmet ÇINAR shared details of the education-centered “Hold My Hand Project,” carried out with the slogan “If you can’t come, we are coming to you!” by visiting the homes of citizens with disabilities.

          At the panel where other speakers also shared their respective municipal activities, the Bağcılar Municipality Deputy Mayor Mr. Atty. Mehmet ŞİRİN, who was a panelist representing Istanbul Bağcılar Mayor Mr. Lokman ÇAĞIRICI, spoke about the “Palace for the Disabled,” and Ms. Atty. Nilgün BERK, who spoke on behalf of Bursa Nilüfer Mayor Mr. Mustafa BOZBEY, presented the “Our Home Project”...
