Content
The Pediatric Surgery department is a specialized division of healthcare that focuses on the surgical treatment of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric surgeons are trained to provide surgical care for a wide range of congenital anomalies, diseases, and injuries specific to the pediatric population.
Here are some key aspects and functions of the Pediatric Surgery department:
Surgical Treatment of Congenital Anomalies: Pediatric surgeons perform surgical interventions to correct congenital anomalies present at birth. These may include conditions such as cleft lip and palate, congenital heart defects, gastrointestinal malformations, neural tube defects, and limb deformities. They work closely with other specialists, such as pediatricians, neonatologists, and geneticists, to provide comprehensive care for infants with complex conditions.
Pediatric Oncological Surgery: Pediatric surgeons play a vital role in the surgical treatment of childhood cancers. They perform biopsies, tumor resections, and other surgical procedures to remove or manage cancerous tumors in children. They collaborate with pediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other specialists to develop individualized treatment plans and provide ongoing care for pediatric cancer patients.
General Pediatric Surgery: Pediatric surgeons are trained to perform a wide range of general surgical procedures on children. These may include surgeries related to the gastrointestinal system (such as appendectomy, hernia repair, and intestinal obstruction repair), urological conditions (such as hypospadias repair and undescended testicle surgery), thoracic surgeries (such as chest tube placement and lung resection), and other surgical interventions required for pediatric patients.
Minimally Invasive Surgery: Pediatric surgeons are skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. These techniques involve making small incisions and using specialized instruments to perform surgical procedures. Minimally invasive surgery in pediatric patients often results in smaller scars, reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times.
Trauma and Emergency Surgery: Pediatric surgeons are trained to handle surgical emergencies and traumatic injuries in children. They play a critical role in the immediate assessment, stabilization, and surgical management of pediatric patients who have experienced accidents, injuries, or other acute surgical conditions.
Multidisciplinary Approach: Pediatric surgeons work closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurses, and other specialists. They collaborate to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for pediatric patients, ensuring that their surgical needs are met while considering their overall well-being.
Pediatric Surgical Research and Education: Pediatric surgeons actively engage in research activities to advance the field of pediatric surgery. They contribute to the development of new surgical techniques, improve outcomes, and enhance understanding of pediatric surgical conditions. Additionally, pediatric surgeons play a crucial role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, ensuring the continued growth of expertise in pediatric surgery.
The Pediatric Surgery department is dedicated to providing specialized surgical care for children, addressing their unique anatomical, physiological, and emotional needs. The expertise and knowledge of pediatric surgeons contribute to improved outcomes, better quality of life, and the overall well-being of pediatric patients and their families.
Our Mission
To provide infants and children, as our patients and trust, with the very best pediatric surgical care.

Our Vision

Considering the care in toto of a child to be very essential, we will strive to collaborate with and also learn with the other disciplines, the most effective and prudent treatment of any usual and unusual pediatric case. Excellence in training the younger pediatric surgeons is also another goal and vision of the department. The department strives to become a leader in training post graduates with the aim to provide:
High quality medical education and research in Paediatric Surgery
