PLASTIC RECONSTRUCTIVE and AESTHETIC SURGERY DEPARTMENT

  • The Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery—commonly referred to as Plastic Surgery—is a specialized medical division focused on restoring, reconstructing, and enhancing the appearance and function of various parts of the body. Plastic surgeons are trained to perform a wide range of surgical procedures to address congenital anomalies, acquired deformities, injuries, and aesthetic concerns.
  • Some key aspects and functions of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery include:
  • I. Reconstructive Surgery:
  1. Trauma Reconstruction: Plastic surgeons play a vital role in reconstructing and repairing tissues and structures damaged due to traumatic injuries such as fractures, burns, lacerations, and soft tissue damage. Using techniques such as skin grafts, flap reconstruction, and microsurgery, they aim to restore function, improve appearance, and minimize scarring.
  2. Correction of Congenital Anomalies: Plastic surgeons perform procedures to correct congenital defects such as cleft lip and palate, hand and foot deformities, craniofacial abnormalities, and other conditions present at birth. They work closely with pediatricians, geneticists, and orthopedic surgeons to provide comprehensive care for pediatric patients with complex congenital disorders.
  3. Oncologic Reconstruction: Plastic surgeons collaborate with oncologists and other specialists to reconstruct tissues and structures affected by cancer surgery. They perform procedures such as breast reconstruction after mastectomy, facial reconstruction after tumor removal, and limb reconstruction following sarcoma excision. The goal is to restore function, improve aesthetics, and enhance the quality of life of cancer survivors.
  • II. Aesthetic Surgery:
  1. Breast Surgery: Plastic surgeons perform a variety of breast-related procedures, including breast augmentation (with implants or fat grafting), breast reduction, mastopexy (breast lift), and revision surgeries. These procedures aim to enhance breast shape and volume, improve symmetry, and address aesthetic concerns related to breast appearance.
  2. Facial Aesthetic Surgery: Plastic surgeons perform a range of facial procedures to improve facial aesthetics and address signs of aging. These may include facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), rhinoplasty (nasal reshaping), and chin augmentation. They also offer non-surgical facial rejuvenation such as Botox injections and dermal fillers.
  3. Body Contouring: Plastic surgeons offer body contouring procedures to reshape and enhance the appearance of various body areas. These may include liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), body lift, arm lift, thigh lift, and buttock augmentation. These procedures aim to remove excess fat and skin, tighten loose tissues, and improve overall body proportions.
  4. Non-Surgical Aesthetic Procedures: Plastic surgeons often provide non-surgical aesthetic treatments such as injectables (Botox, dermal fillers), laser therapies, chemical peels, and skin rejuvenation procedures. These treatments help reduce signs of aging, improve skin texture and tone, and enhance overall face and body aesthetics.
  • III. Hand Surgery: Plastic surgeons specializing in hand surgery focus on treating conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities. They address disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, hand fractures, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, and Dupuytren’s contracture. Hand surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical techniques to restore hand function and improve quality of life.
  • IV. Microsurgery: Plastic surgeons with specialized training in microsurgery perform complex procedures using microscopes and advanced instruments. These may include tissue transfer (free flap reconstruction), nerve repair, replantation of amputated body parts, and complex reconstructive surgeries requiring precise and meticulous techniques.
    V. Research and Innovation: Plastic surgeons actively engage in research to advance the field of plastic surgery. They contribute to the development of new surgical techniques, technologies, and innovative approaches aimed at improving patient outcomes, enhancing safety, and optimizing aesthetic procedures.
The Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery aims to provide comprehensive care for patients seeking reconstruction, restoration, or aesthetic enhancement. Plastic surgeons combine surgical expertise with artistic judgment to help patients achieve their desired results, improve self-confidence, and enhance overall well-being.

Our Mission
The mission of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery is to prepare the next generation of plastic surgeons to contribute to our academic institutions and communities by improving the health of individuals and societies through the discovery, application, and dissemination of knowledge. We foster an environment where equity and inclusion are core values, and where our commitment to diversity strengthens our academic and clinical excellence.

Our Vision
To be a national and international leader in plastic surgery research, education, clinical care, and innovation.
