Dialogue Circles in Büyükçekmece Municipality
Location and Date: 27 October 2015, Büyükçekmece, Turkey
In Turkey, city councils provide citizens’ basic
right to participate in politics. Through city councils, local community comes
together and becomes an inclusive unit. Every participant becomes a real member
of their community by providing their time and energy to solve their common
problems. We would like
to open this democratic space to the advantage of our international
students who live in the community. For this, we are working together with the
City Council to connect our international students
with their neighbors. The
first of its kind has taken place at Büyükçekmece on October 27th with the collobaration with the Büyükçekmece municipality. Together with our international students and
municipality officials, we discussed the problems that international students
face in their neighborhoods such as housing and transportation.
