Istanbul Aydın University was founded in 2007 by the Anadolu Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV) with the aim of training qualified human resources sought at national and international levels.
In 2015, the Istanbul Aydın University Board of Trustees decided to establish a Faculty of Medicine, and with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 14.08.2015, the establishment of a Turkish-language Medical Program affiliated with Istanbul Aydın University was officially approved. Under the leadership of the Founding Dean, all necessary preparations were completed, and with the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 12.05.2016, the faculty was granted permission to admit students and begin education.
The Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine Turkish Program has a standard six-year education period. The preclinical phase covers the first three years, while the clinical phase covers the final three years. Each academic year consists of 32 weeks of instruction (annual curriculum). Education begins in the fall semester each year. The courses and seminars of the preclinical phase (1st–3rd years) are offered in Turkish at the IAÜ Halit Aydın Florya Campus. The clinical phase (4th–6th years) is completed alternately at the campus, at the Istanbul Aydın University Health Application and Research Center Hospital, and at leading Turkish training and research hospitals. For clinical rotations at hospitals, theoretical preparation is given on campus, and the language of instruction during clinical internships in training and research hospitals is Turkish.
The primary mission of the Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine is to train competent, skilled, professional, and dedicated physicians equipped for modern healthcare, with patient care as the highest priority. Our goal is to prepare qualified physicians who are ready to meet the challenges of 21st-century healthcare. The Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine Turkish Program graduated its first cohort in 2022.
The Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul Aydın University continues its preparations meticulously to apply for full accreditation status granted by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD) and the National Medical Education Accreditation Board (UTEAK).
