Biochemistry, which is inseparable from the chemistry of life, is a scientific discipline that examines the structure, functions and interactions of biomolecules. The functioning of metabolism in living organisms, the regulation of metabolic pathways, and the investigation of metabolic disorders are evaluated within the scope of biochemical research. In addition, clinical biochemistry, which plays a significant role in the diagnosis of diseases in medicine, encompasses the analysis of various biological materials using chemical and molecular biological methods.
The Department of Medical Biochemistry plays a critical role in medical education by providing students with a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of biochemistry and molecular biology. Students receive training in laboratory techniques such as protein purification, enzyme assays, and chromatography, preparing them for careers in clinical practice or research.
Our department conducts both theoretical and practical courses in biochemistry and clinical biochemistry within the medical school curriculum.
Mission
-
To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying normal cellular function and the pathophysiology of disease.
-
To develop new diagnostic tools and therapeutic approaches for a wide range of diseases, including cancer, metabolic disorders, and genetic conditions.
-
To educate future generations of medical professionals and researchers in the principles and applications of biochemistry and molecular biology.
-
To promote interdisciplinary research and collaborate with other departments and institutions in order to advance our understanding of human health and disease.
-
To follow scientific and technological developments in the field of Medical Biochemistry and to convey up-to-date fundamental and clinical biochemistry knowledge to all our students.
-
To contribute to the training of physicians who are aware of the health problems of our country and capable of producing solutions.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Biochemistry is to become a distinguished and nationally recognized unit by providing medical students with excellent educational competencies in the fields of Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry.
