Ongoing projects:

  1. The TÜBİTAK 2209-A project titled "Elements Transferred from Turkish to Arabic Through Syrians in Turkey," supervised by Research Assistant Reyhan Önal, was initiated by Yunus Kerem Kaya in 2025 and is still ongoing. The project examines how Syrians living in Turkey incorporate Turkish-origin words and expressions into their daily and written Arabic usage; it aims to present original data in the context of language contact, borrowing, and sociolinguistics.   2. The TÜBİTAK 2209-A project titled "Compilation of Turkish-Arabic Press Terms," supervised by Assistant Professor Faizeh Alghafeer, was initiated by Feyza Nur Er in 2025 and is still ongoing. This study examines the terminological interaction between the two languages in the context of press language by analyzing the Turkish equivalents and usage patterns of terms used in Arabic press language.   3. The project titled "A Study on Translation Problems of Cultural Elements from Turkish to Arabic," conducted by Kübra Alibaşoğlu under the supervision of Dr. İnayetulla Azim, addresses the problems encountered in the transfer of cultural elements in translations from Turkish to Arabic. The study analyzes problems of cultural equivalence, semantic shift, and contextual adaptation through sample texts; the difficulties encountered in translating cultural elements and possible solutions are discussed.   4. The project titled "A Study of Real and False Friends in Translation in the Context of Legal Terms Transferred from Arabic to Turkish," conducted by Hümeyra Zeynep Lal Dikmen under the supervision of Dr. İnayetulla Azim, examines the legal terminology between the two languages from a translation studies perspective. The study aims to draw attention to the conceptual problems encountered, especially in legal translations, by identifying the terms "real friend" and "false friend" that lead to semantic misunderstandings in translation.   5. The "Turkish-Arabic Economic Terms Database Project," conducted by Rukiye Mesut under the consultancy of member Inayetulla Azim, aims to create a systematic and accessible database covering Turkish and Arabic economic terms. Within the scope of the project, translation problems of economic terms will be addressed; a dictionary will be produced that serves as a reliable reference source for translation activities, academic studies, and professional use.   6. The TÜBİTAK 2209-A project titled "Social Media Use of Generation Z: A Sociological Study on Habits, Behaviors, and Tendencies," supervised by Doç. Dr. Fatma Nur Şengül, was initiated by Devrim Karabulut in 2025 and is currently ongoing. The project aims to examine the social media usage purposes, conspicuous consumption tendencies, and levels of influence from social media influencers among Generation Z university students through a quantitative research methodology. The data obtained through survey techniques reveal that Generation Z primarily uses social media to follow current events, for entertainment, and for communication purposes; moreover, as the level of influence from social media influencers increases, the tendency toward conspicuous consumption on social media also rises. Completed projects:

  1. The "Equestrian Culture" Archaeological Excavation Project, conducted in 2024-2025 under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elvin Yıldırım, Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yıldırım, and Ulziibayar Sodnom, with Istanbul University, Mongolian State University, and Mongolian University of Culture and Arts as stakeholders, has been completed.
  2. The project titled "Some Findings and Assessments on the Plague Epidemic in the Ottoman and Balkan Geography in the 18th Century According to Official Sources," funded by TÜBİTAK 2209 and supervised by Hakan Engin, was conducted by Fatime Sevde Gül.
  3. The project titled "A Study on the Practice of Burial Horses in Ancient Turkic Burial Styles," supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elvin Yıldırım and conducted by Necdet Karasevda, examines burial traditions in ancient Turkish culture from a historical and archaeological perspective. This study aims to reveal the symbolic and cultural meanings of the horse burial practice.
  4. The project titled "The Mediating Role of Social and Emotional Loneliness in the Relationship Between Smartphone Addiction and Brain Fog," conducted by Alev Güler and Sema Ceren Aras under the supervision of Dr. Elif Özge Erbay, examines the relationship between technology use and cognitive processes. The research aims to reveal the mediating role of social and emotional loneliness on this relationship.
  5. The project titled "The Effect of Media Consumption on Learning Russian," conducted by Elif Simge Özsevim under the supervision of Dr. Jale Coşkun, examines the role of media tools in the foreign language learning process. The study aims to evaluate the contribution of media use to language skills in the context of learning Russian.
  6. The project titled "Internal Migration Dynamics and Cultural Diversity Arising from Internal Migration in Küçükçekmece District," conducted by Simay Berre Özaltın under the supervision of faculty member Burcu Güdücü, addresses the socio-cultural impacts of internal migration at the local level. The research aims to reveal the reflections of migration processes on cultural diversity.
  7. Under the supervision of Dr. İlkin Başar, faculty member Dilek Çetin, Fikriye Torun, Nevzat Baran Öksüz, and İrem Nur Aslan conducted the project titled "The Alice in Wonderland Story: A Comparative Study of 20th and 21st Century Turkish Translations Through Vinay and Darbelnet Translation Strategies." The study aims to reveal methodological changes in translations made in different periods.
  8. The "Turkish-Arabic Press Terminology Database Project," conducted by Feyza Nur Er under the supervision of Lecturer Faizeh Alghafeer, aims to systematically compile press terminology between the two languages. The study aims to create a resource for translation and language studies.
  9. The project titled "Elements Transferred from Turkish to Arabic Through Syrians in Turkey," conducted by Yunus Kerem Kaya under the supervision of Research Assistant Reyhan Önal, addresses linguistic interaction processes in the context of migration. The research examines words and expressions transferred from Turkish to Arabic from a sociolinguistic perspective.
  10. The project titled "Earthquakes in the Balkan Geography and Ottoman Disaster Management: A Chronological and Regional Data Study (18th and 19th Centuries)", conducted by Sahra Nur Bal and Selda Aleyna Kurt under the supervision of faculty member Hakan Engin, examines disaster management in the Ottoman period in light of historical data.
  11. The project titled "Silivri Under Ottoman Administration: Analysis of its Demographic and Socio-Economic Structure According to Tahrir and Population Data (19th Century)", conducted by Muhammed Eyüp Uzun and Feyza Bal under the supervision of faculty member Hakan Engin, examines Ottoman provincial administration through demographic data.
  12. The project titled "Examination of the Relationship Between the Level of Tolerance in Interpersonal Relationships and Attitudes Towards Refugees", conducted by Meryem Ordu, İremnur Çelik, and Öykü Bıyıksız under the supervision of faculty member Elif Özge Erbay, addresses the relationship between individual attitudes and societal perceptions.
  13. The project titled "A Look at Language Teaching Through Russian Visual Writing," conducted by Ece Su Tarhan under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Jale Coşkun, examines the role of visual writing elements in language teaching.
  14. The TÜBİTAK 2209-A project titled "Child Delinquency: A Qualitative Research Project on the Roots of the Problem and Solution-Oriented Approaches," supervised by Doç. Dr. Fatma Nur Şengül, was initiated by Pınar Erdem in 2024 and completed in 2025. The project aims to examine the social profiles of children involved in delinquency and to analyze the family, peer, and psychosocial factors contributing to criminal behavior based on the children's own experiences. Through semi-structured qualitative interviews, the findings demonstrate that child delinquency cannot be explained solely by individual tendencies but is closely related to family structure, lack of emotional support, and socioeconomic conditions.   15. The project titled "The Effect of Environmental Awareness Education on University Students' Intentions and Behaviors Towards Waste Reduction," conducted by Damla Nur Çelen, Gaye Acar, and Gamze Kurt under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Hande Tasa, examines the behavioral effects of environmental education.
  16. The project titled "Examination of Sexual Harassment Attitudes from the Perspective of Intersectional Discrimination: Syrian Women in the Workplace," conducted by Zeynep Çağla Çandır and Birsen Kahraman under the supervision of member Hande Tasa, addresses the phenomenon of discrimination in the context of gender and migration.
  17. The project titled "A Socio-Cultural Field Study on Contemporary Novels: The Arnavutköy Example of Istanbul," conducted by Rüveyda Örnek, Suna Çelik, and Ceren Pınar Sevim under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçen Çatlı, examines contemporary literature with field data.
  18. The TÜBİTAK 2209-A project titled "Natural Disasters (Earthquake) and Forced Migration: A Sociological Study on Earthquake Victims Migrating to Istanbul," supervised by Dr. Fatma Nur Şengül, was conducted by Selcanay Pak between 2023 and 2024. The project examines the social, economic, and psychological experiences of earthquake victims who migrated to Istanbul following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake. Based on qualitative interviews, the study aims to understand post-disaster migration, adaptation processes, and social solidarity practices through the narratives of earthquake victims, revealing the transformative impact of disasters on everyday life and value systems.   19. The project titled "Representations of Women and Nature in the Works of John Keats and Dante Gabriel Rossetti within the Framework of Ecofeminism," conducted by Ece Uçar, Hazal Çelik, and Elif Sude Sayın under the supervision of member Tülay Dağoğlu, examines literature and visual arts from an ecofeminist perspective.
  20. The project titled "The Impact of Technology on Local Sustainability Projects in Literature: An Examination of J. G. Ballard's *High-Rise* and Ernest Callenbach's *Ecotopia* from a Posthumanist Perspective," conducted by Sude Öner and Mukaddes Kocakışla under the supervision of Research Assistant Başak Almaz, evaluates the relationship between literature and technology within a posthumanist framework.
