Program Overview

The Elementary Mathematics Teaching Bachelor's Program at Istanbul Aydın University aims to educate mathematics teachers who are responsive to contemporary educational needs, continuously develop their pedagogical knowledge and skills, and possess a strong sense of inquiry, creativity, and innovation. The program's core mission is to prepare teachers who can effectively apply modern approaches to mathematics education, use educational technologies efficiently, and demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills, while upholding ethical values, human rights, and social responsibility.

The academic approach of the program is based on integrating solid subject-matter knowledge with pedagogical competence through a practice-oriented learning model. This approach supports the development of teacher candidates who can plan, implement, and evaluate the teaching–learning process effectively, while fostering positive attitudes toward mathematics among students. The program's curriculum is aligned with national education policies and international standards and is delivered by a qualified academic staff, which distinguishes the program in terms of educational quality. The educational activities carried out in the program are directly aligned with the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ) and program outcomes; teaching staff effectively utilize both classroom and non-classroom environments with up-to-date teaching methods (project-based learning, collaborative learning, technology-supported teaching, game-based teaching, etc.). The multiple assessment approaches supporting this process provide the opportunity to holistically evaluate students' knowledge, skill, and attitude development.

The program offers a wide range of academic and personal development opportunities. Students may pursue double major and minor programs to gain expertise in additional fields and participate in international exchange programs, allowing them to study abroad for one or two semesters and develop a global perspective. Upon graduation, students may continue their academic and professional development through master's and doctoral programs.

Graduates of the program are qualified to work as mathematics teachers in public and private secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. In addition, they may pursue careers in educational administration, educational consultancy, and as subject-matter experts in institutions that develop digital educational content, instructional materials, and educational software for middle school mathematics education. Graduates who aspire to an academic career may complete graduate studies and work as faculty members at universities.
