Architecture is not merely a discipline focused on the production of space; it is a multidimensional field of thought that must be addressed together with its social, environmental, and cultural contexts. The Architecture (English) Department of Istanbul Aydin University adopts a contemporary educational approach that aims to educate students as individuals who think critically, act creatively, and possess a strong sense of responsibility. Its educational philosophy is based on an idealistic and innovative perspective that addresses architectural design in a holistic manner, encompassing cultural, technological, environmental, and social dimensions.
With a focus on contemporary architectural practices, the program supports the development of students as individuals who can adapt to changing professional dynamics, conduct research, and engage in production. While a pedagogical structure that combines intuitive thinking with analytical approaches is adopted in design studios, the strengthening of students’ intellectual foundation is also aimed through theoretical courses. The delivery of education entirely in English supports students’ direct access to international academic literature and enables effective communication in global professional environments.
Architectural education is approached not only as a process of acquiring professional knowledge and skills, but also as a holistic field of development supported by ethical values, critical thinking, and a sense of social responsibility. The Architecture (English) Department aims to reveal students’ unique potential by providing an inclusive, participatory, and productive learning environment. Within this framework, the Department seeks to educate students as architects who are able to understand the local context, think on a global scale, and design the spaces of the future with a strong sense of responsibility.
