“Turkish-Western Relations” Evaluated

İstanbul Aydın University Platform for Western Studies evaluated “Turkey from the Historical Perspective-Western Relations” with the participation of ES Media’s Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of Justice and Development Party’s Central Executive Decision Board Ethem Sancak. Ethem Sancak expressed that “The East recovered it self, the West should recognize this”.
İstanbul Aydın University Platform for Western Studies, analysing Turkey’s relations with the West and conducting academic studies, this time invited Ethem Sancak as main speaker to make an evaluation about the current situations.  Chairman of the Board of Trustees of İAÜ Dr. Mustafa Aydın, Former European Union and Former Ministry of State Egemen Bağış and academics attended to the platform.
“The West should recognize that Turkey found itself”
During his speech Sancak expressed these words:  “I am not a history specialist, however I am really interested in history. I read lots of things in this field. Throughout the historical process, Turks and Asiatic peoples led by Turks always approached in good faith to the West. However, the West exploited this good faith every time. Turkey taught lots of things to West and learned many things from them. There are many correlations between manufacturing and science. In the past, this balance was in favor of the West. Currently, this  is moving to the East, Asia-Pasific. Since manufacturing is mainly made Asia-Pasific oriented, so it is so close that science will move there.”
Afterwards, Sancak said that “And yet Asiatic peoples and Turkish people have lots of things to learn form the West. However, the West also has to realize that Turkey is not that same society, they recovered themselves and revived. The Turks have been Westerner since Atilla, since the dawn of the history. There is no need someone else to call us ‘Westerner’.” Chairman of the Board of Trustees of İstanbul Aydın University Dr. Mustafa Aydın said: “We always evaluate and discuss such issues in Western Platform of our University and Aydın Thought Platform with valuable specialist figures by discussing economic, social, political and current issues in details. Later on, detailed reports prepared related to these issues and submitted to relevant department. We call this –to nourish the government-. Today, there are nearly 190 university, around 150 thousand academic and over 7 million student in Turkey. So, that means there is a wisdom, brain and thought. If you do not use all these wisdom and thought to serve for your country, you should question your existence.”
“Europe Experiencing an Abdication of Reason”
Egemen Bağış expressed these words related to the discussion: “ Turkey and the West relations have always been important but especially within this traumatic relation that we have gone through in the recent days, relations between Turkey and the West and its perspective, history and influence on today became more and more critical.” In addition to this, Bağış criticising the decisions about Turkey taken in European Union Parliament, emphasizing Europe’s experiencing a fatal abdication of reason in the recent days, he said: “Europe is currently experiencing a fatal abdication of reason. Especially, the decision taken in the last week in European Parliament is against the Europe’s benefits. Remember that three days before that when he went  to European Parliament, President of Counsil of Europe Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker showed a reaction that there were only 35 members of European Parliament in the hall to listen to him and he criticised European Parliament in his speech. Furthermore, Juncker should be suprised that three days later for a resolution about Turkey,  around 400 European Parliament’s members were there to vote against Turkey. This is an abdication of reason and anti-Turkish policy. This discrimination neither is in favor of Europe nor has an advantage for the people in  Europe.”
