Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The course aims to focus on Turkey and it trade regimes and trade relations both in neighbouring countries and other countries.
Course Content Main focus of the course is to analyze trading activities of Turkey with its neighbours and countries in the region. As well as unions and trade unions are in the content of the course. EU, NAFTA, relations with China, Africa, Russia, Canada, South America etc. are in detaily analyzed.

Weekly Course Subjects

1Introduction, introducing the course to students, explaining the expectations of students, requirements, etc.
2Trade policies in general and controversies in trade policies, Exchange rate system and trading, advantages, disadvantages, National Income Accounting and the Balance of Payments Trade Regimes of Turkey, historical analysis of trade regimes and the effect of globalisation on changes on trade regimes of Turkey
3An overview of world trade and countries, ‘Who Trades with whom?’ General review of trade relations of Turkey with neighbouring countries, conditions and potential of neighbouring countries, risks and other obstacles.
4EU Trade relations with Turkey, discussing the effect of geographical closeness, benefits, challenges, opportunities etc. with Turkey and EU members. Turkey and EU CU Agreement and Impact of a Customs Union on Turkey's Foreign Trade
5Turkey’s Trade Relations with countries outside of EU, Free Trade Agreement with EFTA States
6Turkey-USA Economic and Trade Relations
7Turkey-Russia Economic and Trade Relations, Russian effect, trade relations with Russia together with other countries will be analysed.
8Turkey-China Economic and Trade Relations, this will be analysed together with the rise of China, export and import volume, foreign trade policy and how Turkish trade relations are being effected with China together with the effect of other global players.

10Turkey-Canada Economic and Trade Relations
11Turkey-Arab Countries Economic and Trade Relations
12Turkey-Iran Economic and Trade Relations. Bilateral Trade, this will be analysed together with international trade relations and Turkey’s position and importance with some current changes.
13Turkey-Africa Economic and Trade Relations, African opening of Turkey, importance of certain regions of the continent for Turkey.
14Turkey-South America Economic and Trade Relations

Resources

There is no published source for the course. Different materials as well as articles and state reports are used for the course. Mainly webpages of the relevant organisations and trade will be used for practical information of the organisation and some current debate, articles will be used for the analysis. Mainly the official webpage of Turkey trade (www.trade.gov.tr) is being used for updated bilateral agreements or agreements with some regional blocks such as EU, EFTA, NAFTA, etc.
