Purpose and Content

The aim of the course This course is designed to observe; Turkish financial markets(money and capital markets), their operating principles, financial instruments and main institutions in these markets and main functions of those.
Course Content Contents of the course are; Money and capital markets, term structure and their instruments, Turkish Capital Market Law, Public Offerings, Underwriting Methods, Portfolio Management Companies, Mutual Funds, Venture Capital and Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Weekly Course Subjects

1Financial markets:Money and Capital Markets, term structure and characteristics, Primary and Secondary Markets.
2Turkish Capital Market Law, and Public Offerings of Capital Market Instruments(Stocks,Bills and Bonds,Asset Backed Securities,and Mutual Funds).
3Public Offering of Joint Stock Companies via capital Increase, and Public Offering of Unlisted Companies via capital increase. Foreign Listed companies under the Turkish Capital Market Law.
4Public Offering Methods; Best- Effort Underwriting, Full Commitment and legal limits in Underwriting and Public Offerings.
5Portfolio Management; its theoretical background, theories, portfolio diversification and Portfolio Management Theories.
6Investment Consulting; its Legal Structure, Principles and Characteristics and Investment Consulting Companies.
7Mutual Funds and Istanbul Stock Exchange; (A) type and (B) type Mutual Funds, legal structure and their impacts on capital markets.
8Repurchase Agreements(Repo) and Reverse Repo Agreements; definitions, authorized institutions and their importance and impacts on Turkish financial markets.
9Historical background and the establishment of Istanbul Stock Exchange(İMKB).
10Midterm Exam
11Istanbul Stock Exchange; Legal Structure and characteristics, ISE Members, ISE Listings.
12ISE Markets, ISE indexes, ISE Clearing and Custody Bank(Takasbank) and ISE Auditing.
13Turkish Central Bank(TCMB); its establishment, functions, operations and impacts on financial markets and general economy.
