Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Metals and their alloys find widespread application in engineering designs due to their properties. Each metal has a different feature that can be used in engineering designs and is used with other materials, taking into account their costs. This course aims to examine and explain the processing, structures, properties and selection criteria of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys.
Course Content Iron-Carbon balance diagrams; Effect of alloying elements on the properties of steel; Heat treatments applied to steels; Classification of steels, steel types and standard designations; Cast irons and their classification; Non-ferrous metals and alloys; Plastics; Composites; Corrosion; Non-destructive testing methods.
