Purpose and Content

The aim of the course To teach the basic theories and concepts of soil mechanics to determine the stress distribution under various loading condions and to prepare the sutudents for foundation design.
Course Content Fundamentals of soil mechanics, elastic and plastic stability, lateral earth pressures, shear strength of soils, Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, stress distribution in soils, point, line and distributed loads, elastic and consolidation settlement of soils, one-dimensional consolidation theory.
