Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Teach the basic concepts of hydraulics to enable the student gain the ability to solve equations governing open channels hydraulics and closed conduit(pipe) hydraulics.
Course Content Dimensional analysis and Pi theorem, model simulation, pressure flows, continuous and terrestrial energy losses, the solution of pipe systems, multi-chamber pipe networks, free-surface flows, cross-sectional dimensions, the most appropriate cross-section with respect to hydraulics, sudden and gradual movements, specific energy, surface jumping, change of water surface in gradually varying movements, calculation of water surface for gradually varying movements, channel controls, orifices and weirs.
