Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Statics serves as the first course in a sequence of courses in structural mechanics where the aim is to enable the students to determine the support reactions and the internal force distributions in statically determinate beams subjected to external forces and supported properly to remain in equilibrium.
Course Content Basic rules of vector algebra, vector quantities of mechanics, mechanics of particles statics of plane forces, body forces, equivalent force system, statics of rigid bodies, equilibrium of rigid bodies, introduction to the statics of load carrying systems , trusses, complex systems and other applications, frictional forces, centroids, the method of virtual work.
